Description from the seller
Set of 5 old Japanese porcelain plates, polychrome – phoenix and floral motifs – Japan
Harmonious set of five small antique Japanese porcelain plates, with slightly lobed rims, richly decorated in blue underglaze, red and light blue, with elegant gilt highlights.
The decoration notably features phoenixes (hō-ō), accompanied by traditional floral and botanical motifs. The center of each plate is adorned with a stylized blue-and-gold floral motif.
The back is also decorated in blue underglaze. Each of the five plates bears a four-character mark readable as 「大化年製」 (Daika nensei). This mark appears to be archaizing and should not be interpreted as a direct dating of the piece.
Dimensions of each plate:
Diameter: 12.5 cm
Height: 3 cm
Quantity: 5 plates
Origin: Japan
Material: porcelain
Decor: phoenixes, flowers and botanical motifs, gilding
Estimated period: late 19th – early 20th century, probably Meiji / early Taishō era
Condition: good antique condition. No cracks or chips. Some wear and loss of gilding mainly on the rims, along with light signs of use consistent with the pieces’ age. Please review the photographs carefully, which are an integral part of the description.
