Saxony Sitzendorf porcelain centrepiece in polychrome, dating to the second half of the 19th century, showing an allegorical female figure with a reticulated basket and gold-edged border, height 31.5 cm, width 15 cm, depth 15 cm, marked with blue crossed swords under the base, from Germany, in good condition with minor wear and age stains.
Description from the seller
Majestic especially as a table piece (or reticulated center basket) in hard-paste polychrome porcelain from the famous Sitzendorf manufacture (Thuringia, Germany), dating from the second half of the 19th century (Napoleon III period, circa 1880).
The sculpture features an allegorical female figure (nymph or muse of music), crowned with a relief garland of flowers and vines, dressed in a flowing drape with delicately hand-painted floral sprigs. She holds a tambourine under her right arm and wears on her head an elegant reticulated basket with festooned edges highlighted in fine gold. The back of the basket reveals a magnificent central bouquet of hand-painted old roses. The base is adorned with rich Rocaille-style volutes emphasized with gold. Mark with two crossed swords painted in blue under a glaze beneath the base.
Dimensions:
• Height: 31.5 cm
• Maximum width (basket): 15 cm
• Depth: 15 cm
Condition:
Beautiful enamel glaze and superb freshness of the original colors.
-> For complete transparency (see the detailed macro photos): we note two old losses (broken phalanges) on the left hand that supports the basket, as well as a small old chip on the lower edge of the base.
Infinitesimal micro-defects typical of the small relief flowers.
No major structural crack on the body or on the superb latticework of the openwork basket.
A sound piece, remains very spectacular and of great presence.
