C. Pierini (XX) - Vanitas, teschio con corona

Oil painting on a canvas-supported surface of the Vanitas genre, depicting a human skull topped by a royal crown, symbols of the contrast between wealth and decadence, the transience of life and the futility of earthly glories before death.
Technique: use of chiaroscuro that heightens the dramatic effect of the subject and bold brushstrokes with warm, earthy tones that emphasize the atmosphere of pathos.
In the bottom left is placed the signature "C. Pierini", a minor 20th-century artist, the date to which the painting can be attributed, contained in an original and contemporaneous frame in lacquered wood with a burl-like effect in amaranth tones and with original glass.
