Description from the seller
Balance #11
Sonny Insinna
A sculptural work from the Balance series, in which Sonny Insinna explores the fragile relationship between living beings and the world they inhabit. The animal is placed in a precarious position, balanced on a sphere that becomes a symbolic representation of an unstable and constantly changing world.
The gorilla, traditionally associated with strength and physical power, is here portrayed in a moment of tension and concentration. Its apparently secure presence contrasts with the instability of the sphere beneath it, suggesting that even strength must constantly confront uncertainty and change.
The 24-karat gold leaf applied to the sphere creates luminous fractures across its surface, while the burnt wood base evokes a wounded and transformed earth. The contrast between white, gold and charred black emphasizes the central dialogue of the series: strength and fragility, destruction and resilience, instability and balance.
