Description from the seller
Rare Antique Wooden Snatch Block / Ship’s Sheave – 11 kg & 47 cm – Pokhout & Teak/Oak – Maritime & Industrial
An impressive, robust, and original antique wooden snatch block (snatch block / hoist pulley) with a beautifully weathered look! This authentic piece of maritime and industrial history is an absolute eye-catcher for lovers of seafaring, antique tools, and an industrial interior.
Quality and Materials
Exterior: Crafted from high-quality, ultra-strong teak/oak with a stunning warm grain, rich patina, and authentic traces of intensive use.
Interior: Fitted with a solid pokhout roller/disc (Lignum Vitae), the hardest wood in the world, naturally self-lubricating and exceptionally resistant to extremely heavy loads and salt water.
Hardware & Construction: Equipped with heavy forged iron/steel fittings, a sturdy suspension eye, and the distinctive hinged mechanism with a locking pin on a chain.
Details: The wood bears original burnt numbers/type codes (01.7380 / 05.101), evidence of professional manufacture.
Application & Design:
Historically, a snatch block was used on heavy sailing ships, cargo ships, and in heavy logistics/crane work to quickly lay in a cable or rope without threading it all the way through. Thanks to its substantial size, heavy weight, and beautiful character, this specimen is a unique decorative object. Perfect to integrate into a maritime collection, as a statement piece in a man cave, loft, hospitality interior, or industrial living space.
Condition:
In a beautiful, original, unrestored state with preserved historic appearance, authentic patina, and characteristic signs of use that tell the story of this unique object.
