Old flat-top mandolin (flat/Portuguese style), built in the early 20th century.
Signatures / Label: A handwritten or printed label “Garnaud” is visible inside the body.
Soundboard: Spruce top with an oval soundhole surrounded by a marqueted rosette. Pickguard (picking plate) inlaid with a mother-of-pearl floral motif. The edge of the top is enhanced by a decorative geometric filet.
Ribs and back: Made of rosewood / palissandre with very handsome natural grain. The ribs are pierced with f holes (f-shaped sound holes).
Tuners: Original brass tuners with bone or similar material buttons.
Tailpiece: Original brass tailpiece attached to the lower rib.
Condition
Instrument in its original state, ideal for a collector or avid admirer of antique luthiery:
Soundboard: There is a superficial crack on the lower part of the top (under the bridge); it remains at the surface and is not deep.
Marquetry / Inlays: Some minor losses or wear on the border inlays.
Signs of use, patina and time marks in keeping with the instrument’s age.
