Description from the seller
Large Sculptural Bohemian Art Glass Vase by designer Jiri Pacinek for Škrdlovice, circa 1960.
Superb and imposing sculptural vase in Bohemian art glass (formerly Czechoslovakia), dating from the 1960s. This rare piece is distinguished by glassmaking work of remarkable technical complexity, characteristic of the major modernist creations of the mid-century (Mid-Century Modern). It is a very fine attribution to the famous designer Jiri Pacinek for the prestigious Škrdlovice glassworks.
• A masterful hot-work: The neck of the cup offers a spectacular organic drape with free undulations, fully hand-formed by the master glassmaker.
• The optical rib decoration: Seen from above, the basin reveals a superb relief pattern of interleaved crescent shapes, created by initial blowing in a ribbed mold before stretching, producing a fascinating floral corolla effect.
• The unique sculptural stem: The solid blown glass foot displays a deep amber color, almost opaque at the core. It is flanked by two superb clear glass fins (or handles) applied hot, acting as true prisms with the light.
