Description from the seller
Sassicaia (Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC) by Tenuta San Guido: 2023, 2022, and 2021.
1. Sassicaia 2021
The 2021 vintage is considered legendary for Bolgheri Sassicaia, rated by many critics as one of the best ever produced in terms of balance, concentration, and aging potential.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Deep, bright ruby red with garnet reflections.
Nose: Magnificent and complex bouquet. Aromas of blackcurrant, blueberries, and plum stand out, accompanied by elegant notes of Mediterranean scrub, rosemary, cedar, pipe tobacco, mint, cocoa, and a marked mineral touch of graphite.
Palate: Taut, powerful, and yet remarkably refined on the palate. The tannins are silky, dense, and well-chiseled. Outstanding acidity provides freshness and drive, leading to an endless, savory, and balsamic finish.
Critical Scores:
Robert Parker / Wine Advocate: 100 / 100
James Suckling: 99 / 100
Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 100 / 100
Wine Spectator: 98 / 100
Decanter: 98 / 100
2. Sassicaia 2022
A vintage marked by a warm climate, masterfully handled by Tenuta San Guido to deliver a rich, sun-ripened, and highly enjoyable wine.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Intense and concentrated ruby red.
Nose: Rich and expressive aromas of ripe red and black fruits (sour cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant), enriched by hints of Tuscan scrub, myrtle, sweet spices, fine leather, chocolate, and a well-integrated toasted edge.
Palate: Soft, enveloping, and dense on the palate. The tannic structure is round and velvety, balanced by a pleasant freshness that complements the richness of the fruit. Long, warm, and elegant finish.
Critical Scores:
Robert Parker / Wine Advocate: 96 / 100
James Suckling: 97 / 100
Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 96 / 100
Wine Spectator: 95 / 100
Decanter: 96 / 100
3. Sassicaia 2023
The 2023 vintage presents a profile of great freshness, balance, and distinct aristocratic elegance.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Clear, vibrant ruby red with light violet reflections.
Nose: Fresh and refined bouquet. Crisp forest berries (redcurrant, raspberry, blueberry) and floral hints of violet and iris emerge, followed by notes of aromatic herbs, Mediterranean woodlands, subtle spices, and graphite.
Palate: Lean, agile, and extremely harmonious on the palate. The acidic backbone offers extraordinary drinkability and freshness. Very fine, precise tannins with a long, clean, and pleasantly savory finish.
Critical Scores:
Robert Parker / Wine Advocate: 97 / 100
James Suckling: 98 / 100
Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 97 / 100
Wine Spectator: 96 / 100
