Description from the seller
Extremely exclusive and refined vintage design necklaces from the renowned brand Studio 5, dating from circa 1985 to 1995. This unique piece of jewelry is a masterful example of modernist jewelry art and boldly combines contrasting materials and textures. The necklace is composed of five individual, perfectly harmonized strands that together form a harmonious and voluminous whole. The chain is designed to be worn as a torsade, with the strands slightly twisted about their axis as the clasp closes, so that they fall as a beautifulcompact and full rope around the neck.
The absolute centerpiece of this piece is the monumental, abstract-organic clasp that is worn at the front as the central showpiece. This sculptural clasp is crafted from solid 14-karat yellow gold and is on the inside stamped with the official 14K gold hallmarks and a master mark, alongside the deeply engraved Studio 5 hallmark. The gold housing is cast in a flowing form reminiscent of molten metal, and organically encircles a very large, flat Baroque Biwa freshwater pearl with an intense, layered mulberry-effect. Mechanically, the clasp is finished to a high standard with a secure pin-and-tube mechanism, equipped with an additional safety latch on the side to prevent loss.
From this gold clasp, the five strands flow seamlessly into dozens of asymmetric, natural white freshwater rice pearls. These pearls are knotted strand by strand by hand to the highest artisanal standards with a fine silk thread, with the base at the gold professionally protected with fine spiral wire to resist wear. The white pearls transition via a playful and organic progression into dozens of deep dark gray hematite beads. These beads have a perfectly round shape and a mirror-like metallic sheen, creating a splendid modern contrast with the rugged, soft texture of the natural pearls. The transition between the two materials is subtly accentuated by scattered small gold-colored beads.
With a total length of 45.5 centimeters when the clasp is open, this necklace falls under the classical Princess length. The total weight is a substantial 39 grams, testimony to the massive gold clasp and the high specific gravity of the hematite beads. The piece is in beautiful, original vintage condition. The gold pin of the clasp shows a slight, characteristic purplish discoloration inherent to the copper alloy in older 14-karat gold that has been stored for a long time, underscoring the authenticity and age of this unique design piece. A rare jewel for the connoisseur or collector of high-end vintage design.
