KLEINE ORIGINELE VERHALEN

The sale of original comics is attracting more publicity, mainly thanks to the showcase offered by public sales and their results that go from record to record. But do we know how a page is created? And which route will this page take once the comic album is printed? Who was the first collector of original French-Belgian plates in the 1960s? Where could we find originals in the 1970s? What were the first specialized galleries in the 1980s and the first public sales at the end of the same decade? What is a beautiful page and how do I choose it? Can we really trust comic-book experts? Why do the costs of public sales keep rising?

The answers to all these questions, and much more, can be found in Little Original Stories, a book you must read now. Whether you are a comic collector or not, this book reveals the underside of this world, playful and fascinating, between passions, art and speculation, and where the sums at stake are sometimes sources of intrigue and dubious maneuvers. Dozens of anecdotes are told by about twenty witnesses who have known this milieu since the 1970s and who shed new light on these small stories that have characterized the original market for over forty years.

Petites Histoires Originales, written by François Deneyer (author of two books dedicated to Jijé and creator of about thirty exhibitions devoted to comics), offers an in-depth analysis and a celebratory exploration of this universe, scented with pencil and Indian ink. It has become an essential reference work and is enriched with more than 200 drawings or original plates from almost 85 different authors, including all the great masters of the Ninth Art: McCay, Herriman, Raymond, Caniff, Eisner, Hergé, Jijé, Jacobs, Franquin, Peyo, Uderzo, Martin, Hubinon, Morris, Tillieux, Pratt, Giraud, Gotlib, Will, Macherot, Hermann, Bilal, Manara, Schuiten, Tardi, Juillard, Rosinski, Loisel, Yslaire, etc. in exclusivity: The Great Maurice, a biographical account by Jacques Topor of his meeting with Maurice Tillieux.

Petites Histoires Originales is 432 pages, 82 original plates, 5 comics, 48 boxes, 79 illustrations including many original covers, 27 images and 11 photographs. It is a fantastic private collection, the ideal museum everyone dreams of having for themselves, a sequence of first-rate pages and mythical images inscribed in the pantheon of graphic storytelling.
