Decoration shows the emblem of the French Republic (with the letters R.F. and a five-pointed star) next to the Imperial Russian Shield (the Tsar's double-headed eagle) with detailed floral patterns at the borders, highlighting its vivid tones.

The Franco-Russian Alliance was a military and political alliance between Russia and France that formed the main driving force of both countries’ foreign policy between 1891 and 1917, and preceded the creation of the Triple Entente. It opposed the Triple Alliance led by Germany.
The earthenware factory "Faience de Choisy-le-Roi" was founded in 1804 in the French town of Choisy-le-Roi. In 1863, the factory came under the direction of Hippolyte Boulenger and was renamed to "H. Boulenger & Cie". The factory became the largest industrial producer of porcelain and earthenware in France.
Each piece features a very characteristic, polychrome floral decoration of the late 19th century, with poppies, daisies and cornflowers around its two central shields:
