First edition.
Folio in-4°, in Latin, with some preliminaries in French and Greek. Numerous diagrams and woodcut figures in the text.
Also present are the writings of Pierre Petit, with his own title page:
- Observationes aliquot eclipsium Solis et Lunae
- Dissertatio de Latitudine Lutetiae et Magnetis Declinatione
- De novo Systemate Mundi...
Collation verified fascicle by fascicle:
[24], 224, [4]; [20], 61, [1] pp.
Preliminaries, main text, 3 pages of index, royal privilege, preliminaries and Pierre Petit’s text and final errata present.
Binding
Eighteenth-century binding in binder’s board, with a backstrip block bearing the title and gilt fillets. Strong hinges.
Conditions
Conservation repairs have been carried out, including:
- consolidation of some margins and corners of the sheets with Japanese paper;
- conservative repair of missing corners of the boards, with compatible materials and without invasive decorative reconstructions.
Internals generally well preserved, with normal signs of wear and aging, some stains, browning and small marginal defects.
The frontispiece shows a marginal loss at the lower corner, consolidated, without loss of printed text.
Old handwritten note on the frontispiece.
The photographs are an integral part of the description and show the real state of the volume and the conservation work carried out.
