Description from the seller
Description
A piece of the Moon, to wear
This pendant holds an authentic fragment of NWA 11787, a lunar meteorite that was blasted off the Moon's surface by an ancient impact and eventually landed on Earth. The fragment weighs 0,3 grams and comes complete with an elegant black stainless steel chain.
About the meteorite
Name: Northwest Africa (NWA) 11787
Classification: Lunar feldspathic breccia, officially recognized by the Meteoritical Society (Meteoritical Bulletin 107)
Origin: the Moon
Found: 2017, Mauritania (total recovered mass about 23.5 kg)
Weight of this piece: 0,3 g
NWA 11787 is a polymict breccia: a "cemented" mix of fragments from the Moon's ancient crust. It contains feldspathic, troctolitic and mafic material, plus grains of pyroxene, olivine and plagioclase. Such rocks come from the lunar highlands, the bright regions you see when you look at the Moon. Lunar meteorites are a small fraction of all known meteorites. They are among the few ways to own a piece of another world without a space mission.
The jewelry
Pendant: natural lunar meteorite fragment, [mounting type, e.g. silver/steel cap]
Chain: black stainless steel chain, length [34 cm]
Condition
Very good.
