Two unopened 75 cl bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky, bottled in the 1970s in Scotland, each 40% ABV, with original packaging.
Description from the seller
Two bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label "Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky", blended Scotch whisky bottled in the 1970s. Both unopened, each in its original box.
This vintage Black Label differs clearly from today's version: no age statement, "Extra Special" designation, from an era when the great Scotch blends relied on malts that are now rare.
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING
- Cap: gold screw cap marked "Extra Special" on top, "John Walker & Sons Limited" signature around the side, "Pat. No 1207487". This British patent number dates from around 1970, so the bottles cannot be earlier than that.
- Bottle base: embossed "S8984 / LIQUOR BOTTLE / SCOTLAND", United Glass hexagonal UG logo, manufacturing codes "N" and "123".
- Labels: neck label "Johnnie Walker Black Label", slanted label "Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky - John Walker & Sons Ltd, Kilmarnock, Scotland - Produce of Scotland", lower gold label with Royal Arms.
- Back label: gold diamond "Distilled and bottled in Scotland under British Government Supervision", typical of this period.
- Boxes: original gold and black boxes with the Striding Man, "Born 1820 still going strong" and Royal Warrant "By appointment to Her Majesty the Queen".
VOLUME AND ABV
No volume or ABV is stated on the labels, which is consistent with bottles predating the general requirement for these mentions. The bottle is the standard size of the time, approx. 75 cl (26 2/3 fl oz). Black Label was then generally bottled at around 40-43% depending on the market; the exact ABV of these bottles is not known. The values entered in the form (75 cl, 40%) are therefore indicative.
CONDITION
- Bottles sealed, caps intact.
- Fill levels good for their age but slightly different between the two bottles (see photos). The colour of the whisky also differs slightly between the bottles, which is common for blends of this period.
- Labels complete and legible, with age-related wear: some faded gilding, small marks on the slanted label.
- Boxes complete with flaps, age-related wear: rubbed corners, faded gilding, small marks, and a small hole on the top of one box (see photo).
SHIPPING
Very carefully packed, each bottle individually protected. Shipped with tracking and insurance.
