Description from the seller
Catalog description
Pair of paintings – Flemish-inspired still lifes, mid-20th century
Pair of paintings depicting rich still lifes with fruit, grapes, containers and other decorative elements, created in the style of the Flemish painting tradition of the Seventeenth Century.
The works, presumably datable to the mid-20th century, the 1950s–1960s, are executed as reproductions and decorative reinterpretations of the famous subjects of Flemish and Dutch seventeenth-century still life. These are paintings primarily intended for furnishing and interior decoration, in keeping with the taste of the era, when this genre of works was produced and marketed to embellish homes and elegant spaces.
The pair features gilded wooden frames of classical taste, which enhance their decorative appearance and overall presentation.
Era: mid-20th century, circa the 1950s–1960s
Subject: Flemish-inspired still lifes
Type: decorative paintings / period reproductions
Provenance: European production, to be verified
Note: these are not original Seventeenth-Century works, but later pictorial interpretations inspired by the tradition
