Description from the seller

1549 Latin New Testament - Testamenti Novi Editio Vulgata - Sebastian Gryphius (Lyon) - Renaissance Miniature Bible - Illustrated Woodcuts
An exceptional and highly collectible 16th-century Latin New Testament (Testamenti Novi. Editio Vulgata), printed in Lyon (Lugduni) in 1549 by the renowned humanist Renaissance master printer Sebastian Gryphius.
This miniature pocket-sized pocket Bible is a beautiful testament to mid-16th-century European printing, boasting a prestigious monastic history and striking period artwork.Fine Renaissance Woodcuts: The volume is beautifully adorned with numerous narrative woodcuts (vignettes) depicting vivid biblical scenes, such as the Adoration of the Magi, the Flight to Egypt, and the Resurrection. Several of these woodcuts bear the celebrated artist monogram "IF" (attributed to the master Renaissance engraver Jakob Faber / Johan Franck).
• Format: Pocket size / Miniature (In-12).
• Binding: Elegant 19th-century half-leather binding (legatura ottocentesca) with mottled/marbled paper over boards. The spine features gold-gilt bands and a green leather title label reading "NOVI TESTAMENTI". The binding shows typical age-related rubbing and wear on the edges, but remains firm and fully intact.
• Interior: The text blocks are generally well-preserved. There is some expected light age-toning, marginal handling marks, and minor water-staining to a few leaves, which is normal for an item nearly 480 years old.
• Collation / Missing Pages: This copy is structurally complete at the beginning but lacks two leaves at the very end of the text: leaves V4 and V5 (pages 311–314). This defect is historic and carefully noted on the rear flyleaf by an old dealer/collector entry reading: "MANCANDO 2 cc. : V4, V5".
