A 16-piece porcelain collection by Herend from Hungary, titled Collection of 16 Hungarian Folk Musicians & Dancers, hand-painted underglaze with gold detailing, featuring the full Orchestra Tzigana and dancers in excellent condition, with heights from about 14 to 22 cm and approximately 200 g per piece, each piece hand-signed by the decorator and bearing the original blue Herend mark.
Description from the seller
Museum-grade condition: a collection of 16 pieces in near-new condition, free of any defects.
We present an extraordinary collection of 16 very fine porcelain figurines, entirely handcrafted and hand-painted by the prestigious Hungarian manufactory Herend. This series is one of the most famous and sought-after from the house, dedicated to celebrating Hungarian traditions, dances, and folk music.
The lot is distinguished by the inclusion of the full “Gypsy Orchestra” and the accompanying dancers. Among the standout pieces are:
The Double Bassist: an imposing piece with great collectible value.
The Musicians: players of accordion, flute, violin, and vihuela.
The Dancers: couples and individuals in traditional costumes, meticulously detailed (embroidered vests, skirt pleats, and shiny boots).
Technique is hard-paste white porcelain, hand-painted underglaze with gilt finishing.
Marks: Each statuette bears the original blue Herend mark on the base, the model number engraved, and the decorator’s signature.
All 16 pieces are in impeccable condition. Despite the extreme fragility of the details (fingers of the hands, bow-arcs of the violins, feathers on the hats), the collection is free of chipping, cracks, or professional restorations. The enamels are glossy and the colors vivid as if just out of the factory kiln.
Model Numbers (Form): Identifiers engraved in the porcelain clay (e.g., Mod. 5403, Mod. 5914).
Dating and Signature: Some pieces bear chronological coding (e.g., E.91 for the year 1991) and the decorator’s number (e.g., painter no. 3) handwritten in blue.
Dimensions: Heights range from about 14 cm to 22 cm.
