Scholarly volume published for the 350th anniversary of Georgian book printing, devoted to the origins of Georgian typography and the earliest Georgian printed books.
Contains extensive facsimile reproductions of important 17th-century Georgian publications, including:
- Alphabetum Ibericum sive Georgianum – Rome, Propaganda Fide, 1629
- Litany of Loreto – Georgian translation
- Stefano Paolini & Niceforo Irbachi – Dittionario Giorgiano e Italiano – Rome, 1629, the first Georgian–Italian dictionary
- Francesco Maria Maggio – Syntagmaton Linguarum Orientalium – Rome, 1643, an early Georgian grammar
The numerous facsimile pages reproduce complete title pages, Georgian alphabets and historical letter forms, dictionary pages, grammatical tables, prayers, typographical specimens and early Georgian texts.
Also includes scholarly studies, archival documents, historical illustrations and photographs.
