Relief, Bassorilievo - 33 cm - Wood

A carved and partially colored wooden bas-relief depicts a convivial, rustic scene inside a traditional tavern or cellar, brought to life by the presence of several figures arranged around a large hearth. Here is a detailed description of the various elements of the work:
• The figures on the left: two men can be seen seated on wooden casks or crates, sipping and chatting. The man at the far left, in profile and wearing a hat, holds a glass of red wine. Next to him, the second man is shown in a more dynamic pose, with one leg crossed over the other, as he raises a decanter or mug to pour himself a drink or make a toast.
• The central part (the hearth): In the center of the composition dominates a large stone fireplace, within which a lively fire burns, rendered with warm shades of yellow and orange. In front of the fire, seated on a bench with their back to the viewer, a couple is glimpsed in a moment of intimacy.
• The right part (the cellar): On the right side of the scene are carved large aging wooden casks typical of cellars. On top of one rests a carafe or glass flask containing a pinkish/red liquid, while at ground level a small ceramic mug is visible.
• The background and details: In the left background there are shelves with jugs and terracotta tableware, contributing to the rural, old-time atmosphere of the place.
• Style and workmanship: The carving is deep and geometric, with bold lines defining the volumes of bodies, clothing, and objects, giving the figures strong expressiveness and three-dimensionality. The use of color is selective and shaded, leaving visible the natural grain of the wood and focusing mainly on earth tones, clothing, wine, and fire.
