AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Bronze statue of Shakyamuni Buddha - Rattanakosin / Ayutthaya Style - Thailand
Description:
A refined devotional bronze sculpture depicting the Buddha Shakyamuni seated in the Bhūmisparsha mudra position (the gesture of witness or touching the earth).
The statue features stylistic elements typical of the Siamese tradition (Thailand) straddling the late Ayutthaya period and the early Rattanakosin period (Bangkok): a serene face with half-closed eyes, the ushnisha topped by a lotus-petal pinnacle, and a seated throne with stylized lotus motifs.
On the surface there are extensive and captivating residues of dark lacquer and gold leaf (merit leaves), traditionally applied by devotees as an act of devotion over time.
The interior of the sculpture is hollow and preserves the original core in terracotta-colored clay used in the lost-wax casting process, a fundamental element that attests to its ancient artisanal manufacturing.
A beautiful natural patina from oxidation (malachite) is present on the inner edges and the base.
• Height: 21 cm
• Width: 16 x 10 cm
• Condition: Structurally solid. Shows signs of age, gilding wear, and slight losses/cracks along the lower edge of the metal base, consistent with age and devotional use. Please carefully review the photos for details.
