Extremely good condition 30-piece Japanese porcelain tea service from circa 1930–1960, decorated in Geisha Ware Kutani style with polychrome motifs of ladies in traditional dress, flowers, pavilions and landscapes; includes 8 dessert plates, 8 cups, 8 saucers, 1 teapot with lid, 1 sugar pot with lid, 1 milk jug, and 3 matching underplates, all in fine eggshell porcelain with red rims and multiple color accents; origin Japan.
Description from the seller
Extensive 30-piece Japanese porcelain tea service from circa 1930–1960, richly decorated in the traditional Geisha Ware / Kutani style.
The service is executed in fine, relatively thin-walled porcelain and decorated with colorful Japanese garden scenes featuring ladies in traditional dress, flowers, pavilions, landscapes and water features. The decoration is built up from fine reddish-brown contour lines with accents in green, blue, yellow, pink and iron red. The characteristic red rims and hand-finished details give each piece its own appearance.
Several pieces bear red base marks; one piece is marked with “IMPORT”. The exact manufacturer has not been identified. Because of the decoration, craftsmanship and design, the set is therefore carefully described as Japanese Geisha Ware in Kutani style.
Composition:
*8 dessert/cake plates – Ø approx. 16–17 cm.
*8 cups – Ø approx. 8.5 cm, H approx. 5 cm.
*8 matching saucers – Ø approx. 13 cm.
*1 teapot with lid – H approx. 22 cm.
*1 sugar pot with lid – H approx. 11 cm
*1 milk jug – H approx. 8 cm, Ø approx. 7 cm.
*3 matching underplates for the teapot, sugar pot and milk jug.
Total: 30 pieces, with the teapot and sugar pot complete with their loose lids.
Origin: Japan.
Period: approx. 1930–1960.
Material: fine Japanese porcelain, partly thin-walled / eggshell-type.
Style: Geisha Ware / Kutani style.
Decoration: polychrome Japanese figurative and floral decor.
A particularly decorative and extensive dinnerware set that appeals to collectors of Japanese export porcelain, Geisha Ware and Asian ceramics, but also looks beautiful in a classic or eclectic interior.
Condition: Excellent condition. Unused. Has only served as Japanese display cabinet material. No damage.
The dinnerware will be very carefully and individually packaged and shipped within 3 days of payment with track & trace.
