General Service stopwatch issued by the War Office with a Swiss handwinding movement, steel case over 50 mm, model WW2 Broad Arrow, reference 316609, in good used condition with visible wear, weight 80 g, in working order and shipped insured.
Description from the seller
A beautiful and historically interesting specimen of a mechanical stopwatch, produced in Switzerland for the British War Office during the tumultuous period around World War II (1939-1945). This so-called 'General Service' stopwatch is in a beautiful, authentic condition. The timepiece is housed in a sturdy metal case with a clean white dial, featuring crisp black Arabic numerals, a central 60-second register and a sub-register for minute counting up to 30 minutes.
Guaranteed State Property with 'Broad Arrow'
What makes this collectible truly unique are the official military markings on the rear of the case. Here you can see the iconic and deeply struck Broad Arrow (the arrow symbol), the irrefutable proof that this stopwatch was officially owned by the British Armed Forces. Directly beneath is the unique, low military issue number 487. On the inside, the rear cover is beautifully finished with a circular perlage pattern and bearing the case serial number 316609.
Swiss Watchmaking Quality
The mechanical movement testifies to pure Swiss precision, recognizable by the marking 'Swiss' at the bottom of the dial. The fine regulator on the balance bridge is provided with the bilingual markings F/S (Fast/Slow) and A/R (Avance/Retard), typical for Swiss export movements of this period intended for the Allied market. A splendid and functional piece of military history that fits perfectly in any high-quality watch or military collection.
The stopwatch runs when the mechanism is activated and resets when the button is pressed. Due to age it is always recommended to have the mechanism checked and serviced with regular use.
Shipped by registered mail and insured.
