Description from the seller
Pair of Oils on Panel by Vicente Lara (Madrid, 1992) – Contemporary Figurative Expressionism
Lot Description:
Exquisite and unusual pair of original works by contemporary artist Vicente Lara, titled "Lady on a Divan with Mirrors" and "Lady Lying on Bathroom Floor with Man Meditating." Both pieces stand out for their great material force and a profound psychological atmosphere, framed within Spanish figurative expressionism and informalism of the late 20th century.
The works play with space fragmentation through reflections, geometric distortions, and a rich application of oil with dense textures, knife, and scrapes on panel. The expressive use of ochre tones, earths, greens, and grays creates domestic, intimate scenes of enormous introspective and existential charge.
Excellent documentation and interest for collectors:
The backs of both pieces retain intact all their documentary provenance, guaranteeing absolute authenticity and direct provenance from a gallery:
• Original catalog labels: The machine-typed stickers used for recording the exhibition are preserved. As a detail of great value, the label reveals the artist’s original conceptual title ("con señor meditando"), which differs slightly from the simplified version on the wall placards of the show ("con hombre tumbado").
• Provenance and exact date stamps: The reverse of the wood bears the registration stamp dated May 8, 1992, together with the seal of the Madrid framing workshop Cristalerías M. Martín (Calle Alcalá / López de Hoyos, Madrid). This unequivocally places the preparation and opening of the show in spring 1992.
Technical details:
• Artist: Vicente Lara (Signed in the lower right corner)
• Era: Contemporary (May 1992)
• School: Avant-garde / Lyric abstraction and Spanish Expressionism
• Technique: Oil on panel (Provides a rigid support ideal for the author’s textured work)
