Description from the seller

Title: Japanese hexagonal openwork copper hanging lantern (釣灯篭)
Technique: Hammered and riveted copper sheet, full openwork carving
Dimensions: approx H 28 × Max Width 25 cm (H 11.0 × W 9.8 in)
Weight: 786 g
Material: Copper
Period: Mid Showa period (1945–1965)

This hexagonal pavilion-style Tsuritōrō (釣灯篭) can be hung or displayed freestanding. It is a classic copper decorative ornament of the mid-Showa era. Crafted by traditional copper sheet hammering and riveting techniques, it is a quintessential Japanese piece for gardens, tea rooms and entrances, offering candle lighting, ambient styling and interior decoration.

Designed in an authentic Japanese hexagonal pavilion form, the lantern features a graceful wide lotus-leaf-style roof with a jewel-shaped finial and original metal hanging chain. The six sides are fully decorated with refined diamond lattice openwork, presenting an airy and layered visual effect. Segmented diamond cutout openings enrich the body, supported by six cloud-pattern Ruyi feet fixed by rivets. The entire lantern is constructed through segmented hammering and riveting.

The copper surface develops a naturally warm, aged patina with a fine, textured finish, presenting elegant antique metallic tones. When illuminated, soft light permeates the intricate openwork, creating a serene and refined atmosphere, ideal for traditional Japanese interior aesthetics.

Consistent with its age, the piece shows natural oxidised patina, accumulated dust and minor wear, with subtle verdigris and slight edge knocks. The main body retains solid structure with no cracks or restoration. Overall condition is good relative to its period.
