Description from the seller
Ancient religious painting – Abraham and Isaac (inspired by Caravaggio’s work?)
Important and spectacular old religious painting depicting the Sacrifice of Isaac, with Abraham portrayed at the culminating moment of the biblical episode.
The scene is painted on an ancient wooden panel, part of a 18th-century door, and shows Abraham with the knife, as he is about to sacrifice Isaac, according to the Genesis story. The composition also features the angel figure in the upper part, a characteristic element of the iconography of the episode.
The work is executed on a wooden support and retains a painting surface strongly marked by time, with craquelure and some pigment loss. The back clearly shows the structure and the antiquity of the support.
A piece of notable interest for collectors of sacred art, antiques and old paintings, also in view of the subject depicted.

Technique: painting on wooden panel
