Decorative wall mirror from the late 20th century (circa 1970–1980) in softwood with an ornamental Baroque cornucopia motif, featuring a central mirror within a sculpted frame, made in Italy and in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Decorative wall mirror from the second half of the 20th century inspired by traditional Baroque cornucopias, reinterpreted with an ornamental character and an attractive polychromy that enhances its sculptural presence. The piece features a carved and molded wooden structure, conceived on a pronounced vertical axis that frames a central architectural-profile mirror crowned by a smoothly molded arch.
The composition unfolds through a sequence of scrolls, acanthus leaves, volutes, and floral motifs that evoke the exuberant European Baroque decorative style, elements that unfold symmetrically around the mirror, creating a marked theatrical effect. The finish combines patinated green tones with golden details applied to the carvings, creating an attractive color contrast that adds visual depth and accentuates the richness of the reliefs.
The upper crest, crowned with stylized leaves and vegetal ornamentation, is balanced by a lower terminal equally decorated with flowers and volutes, reinforcing the sense of verticality and elegance typical of the old cornucopias intended to beautify salons, galleries, and representative spaces. The inner frame, with more restrained lines, serves as a counterpoint to the exterior ornamental exuberance, focusing attention on the reflective surface.
Due to its strong decorative personality and its evocation of palace mirrors from the 17th and 18th centuries, this piece constitutes an excellent example of the persistence of Baroque-inspired taste in decoration in the second half of the 20th century, ideal for adding a classic, scenographic, and distinguished accent to any interior.
