Subject: Gallant / idyllic scene in a pastoral taste with female figures, maids, dogs, a goat yoked to a cart and a peacock in the garden of a neoclassical villa.
Technique / Material: Weaving on loom (Jacquard) on textile support.
Dimensions: 178 x 126 x 2.5 cm
Estimated period: Early–mid 20th century (circa 1920–1950)
Condition: Good / Excellent. The colors present a uniform antique patina and the textile weave appears well preserved.
Description: The work depicts a neo-romantic and pastoral taste scene. At the center of the composition are four female figures dressed in draped period garments, surrounded by symbolic elements of country life and villa life: a dog, a peacock in the foreground and a goat hitched to a cart. In the background stands an imposing stone staircase leading to a neoclassical castle/villa immersed in greenery. The weave features the typical fine texture of textiles made on mechanical looms in the first half of the 20th century, inspired by the great Flemish and French tapestries of the 18th century.
