About the artist:
Manuel Solà (Barcelona, 1950) trained at the Escola Llotja in Barcelona. His artistic evolution has led him from painting to sculpture.
His pieces are not modeled, but built with found objects that he almost never alters. Oxidized iron, rings, hinges or scraps of farm tools coexist with stones of different origins: stones from the Saharan hamada, volcanic rocks from the island of Gran Canaria, and river pebbles.
Solà combines them gradually, without a preexisting plan, until the form appears. Thus arise figures with an archaic air, influenced by ancient Greek sculpture, that speak of memory, migration and return to origins. He is currently represented by the Espai Art60 gallery in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Girona, Spain.
