Description from the seller
1972 marks the start of the ten-year cycle under the shadow of Giuman, a theme the artist explored until 1982. From this research, the series The Shadows of Thales and The Phenomenology of Shadows were born. The work thus places itself at a pivotal turning point for the artist, who abandons figurative painting to investigate the perceptual and spatial potentials of geometric forms. The palette is essential and contrasted. The work is one of the early pieces in the cycle. The title refers to Thales of Miletus, the Greek philosopher who, according to tradition, managed to measure the height of pyramids by using his own shadow. Giuliano Giuman was born in Perugia in 1944; he was a pupil of the futurist Gerardo Dottori. He began devotedly painting in 1964.
