Description from the seller
Maureen Bachaus studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, the Conceptual Post-graduate Academy in Amsterdam, and the European University Institute in Florence.
Her artistic practice focuses on social themes and the relationship between people, their environment, and society. Her work has been shown at international biennales, festivals, and curated projects in Europe and the United States, including the Nomad Biennale in Pristina, the Passion for Freedom Festival in New York, the BIO50 Biennale in Ljubljana, and art projects in Tbilisi and Skopje. Her work is represented by galleries in Belgium, Germany, and France and has been featured in, among others, Art Rotterdam and Art Basel.
Purified is a powerful, conceptual work by Maureen Bachaus, in the symbolic color red. The faded face of a young woman evokes associations with anonymity, transformation, and letting go of the past. The word "purified" seems to be sewn into the canvas, forming a recurring element in Bachaus's work. Hand-signed, stretched on a canvas frame and ready to hang.
