About the artwork
This work is a homage to Salvador Dalí and, in particular, to one of his most haunting paintings: Archaeological Reminiscence of Millet’s “Angelus.” Dalí himself created this piece as a surreal reimagining of Jean-François Millet’s iconic 19th-century painting The Angelus, transforming its humble peasant figures into monumental, ruin-like forms that seem to emerge from the earth itself. In doing so, Dalí extended Millet’s meditation on faith, labour, and memory into the realm of the unconscious, turning a moment of prayer into an archaeological vision of time, desire, and loss.
My intention is to continue this lineage of reinterpretation: to take Dalí’s vision as a point of departure and carry its torch forward into a new expression. I am compelled by the enchanted awe and uncanny magic that Dalí’s painting evokes the sense that something ancient and emotional is buried within the landscape, waiting to be uncovered. In this work, I strive not to replicate Dalí’s imagery, but to channel the feeling it inspires: a dreamlike suspension between reverence and mystery, where memory and myth converge.
About the artist
Andreea, working under the name Altheea Adebisy, is a contemporary visual artist based in the United Kingdom. She creates original works in oil, acrylic, watercolour and mixed media, as well as digital illustration. Her practice is driven by emotion and imagination, often leaning into abstract and surrealist styles that question everyday beliefs and the idea of a single “normal” reality.
She is drawn to bright, bold colours and strong contrasts that bring energy and depth to each piece. Alongside painting, she explores a range of handmade media, allowing curiosity and play to guide her process. Every work carries the sense of joy, wonder and curiosity she experiences while making it.
