AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Oreste Costa (Florence, 1851–1901) Le Masse, oil on a wooden panel, the only work measures 19.5 x 13.5 cm. Magnificent impression of a village, Le Masse, near Florence, in excellent condition and with a contemporaneous frame. The photo that includes a contemporaneous guilloché frame and glass presents the work that will reach the buyer, appearing shaded by the glass. The other photos are taken without glass and show the work in its reality.

Oreste Costa was born in Florence, Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and trained under Antonio Ciseri. Among his works was Gli ultimi Sforzi (The Last Efforts). His brother Antonio was also a painter. He often exhibited in England and one of his paintings, a genre scene with elderly peasants drinking, is in the Hillwood Museum. Excellent market values.
