A miniature cast bronze Buddha Shakyamuni votive statue in meditation pose (padmasana) with the Earth-touching bhumisparsha mudra, dating to the Ava/Pagan region with a natural antique patina and dimensions 2.4 cm high.
Description from the seller
A rare and finely cast miniature votive bronze statuette representing the Buddha Shakyamuni seated in the meditation posture (padmasana). The deity is depicted at the definitive moment of his Enlightenment. His right hand rests over his knee, fingers extended to gently touch the earth in the bhumisparsha mudra (the Earth-touching gesture), calling the earth to witness his merits. The figure features a high, conical ushnisha and a strongly tapered, tiered pedestal characteristic of traditional mainland Southeast Asian votive miniature amulets.
Technical Details & Condition:
• Material: Cast bronze / copper alloy.
• Technique: Crafted using the historic lost-wax casting process (cire perdue). The underside is authentically hollow and exhibits an uneven edge along with a visible core removal recess hole on one side, typical of early regional smithing.
• Patina: Beautiful, natural antique surface patina with deep, encrusted dark brown oxidation and minor lighter tones from decades of handling or burial environment. No modern chemical staining or casting flash lines are present.
• Dimensions: Exceptionally small, miniature scale. Height: 2.4 cm.
• Condition: Very good preserved antique condition with soft, naturally rubbed facial features and edge definitions appropriate for its age.
Dating & Attribution:
While the item exhibits historical stylistic survival from early Pyu or Pagan traditions, it is cautiously and conservatively dated to the regional Ava/Shan States periods (14th to 19th Century). Pocket-sized figures like this were traditionally created to be placed within temple relic chambers or kept as personal protective amulets.
