This hand-carved and hand-painted wooden male mask from Guatemala dates to the late 20th century and measures 22 × 12 cm, with geometric eye decorations and white, black and red polychromy.
Description from the seller
Fascinating traditional wooden mask, entirely carved and hand-painted. The artifact shows interesting stylistic affinities with the ceremonial and dance masks of indigenous Guatemalan communities. It is distinguished by the intense expressiveness of the face, the pronounced nose, geometric decorations around the eyes, and the characteristic white, black, and red polychromy. The back reveals artisanal woodworking, while the surface preserves a notable patina, signs of wear, and cracks compatible with the passage of time. A piece of notable decorative and ethnographic interest, particularly evocative for collectors of traditional masks and folk art. Cultural provenance and dating proposed on stylistic grounds, not documented. Conservation as shown in the photographs.
