Description from the seller
An oil painting on canvas by the French painter André Ginac (1866–1956).
What is depicted is a traditional bomschuit / fishing smack on a rough North Sea.
André Ginac, born in Paris, lived and worked for much of his life in the Netherlands. He specialized in maritime scenes.
Signed on the lower right. (Officially his surname was Gignac, but he signed with 'Ginac').
The painting comes in a wide, gold-colored ornamental frame. On the back there is a stamp from the firm 'J. G. Tenzer' at Noordeinde in The Hague and a telephone number. That indicates that this painting was probably made around 1910–1920. Tenzer sold art supplies at the time. The stated dimensions are inclusive of the frame.
Condition: fairly good. The varnish layer has yellowed and needs cleaning (that yellowing is not visible in the close-up photos, only in the two photos taken from farther away). Furthermore, the painting is in good condition. There is no craquelé. The frame is in very good condition.
