Egypt & Nubia: Temples, Cairo & the Nile – Illustrated Album by David Roberts, Illustrated Edition in English, 15 plates, 30 × 24 cm, blue cloth binding, 1842–1855, good condition.
Description from the seller
A captivating illustrated album featuring views David Roberts, bringing together the monumental temples of Egypt and Nubia, the historic architecture of Cairo, and evocative scenes along the Nile.
The album contains 15 plates, including architectural views, landscapes and a portrait of David Roberts.
Richly detailed compositions reveal carved temple interiors, colossal statues, ancient ruins, ornate domes and minarets, riverboats and figures in traditional dress. Among the subjects shown are Edfu, Kalabsha, Cairo’s Tombs of the Caliphs, Suez and the dramatic setting of Saint Catherine’s Monastery. A portrait of David Roberts is also included.
The appeal lies in the contrast between monumental architecture and everyday life: small groups of travellers, seated figures and boats lend scale and atmosphere to these memorable views.
Presented in a blue cloth binding. The photographed pages show age-related toning, scattered foxing and occasional marks. Please examine the full-page photographs and binding images carefully to assess the condition. Close-up images are included to show the illustrated subjects.
An appealing addition to a collection of illustrated travel books, Egyptian views or works after David Roberts.
