Description from the seller
18K Gold High Jewelry Twin Set with Royal Blue Sapphires – Modernist Optical Design (Op Art) – Private Collection (Provenance: GIA Gemologist)
Technical description:
• Material / Purity: Solid 18-karat yellow and white gold (no physical assay stamp of origin, professionally tested).
• Total net weight: 16.7 grams (a massive, robust, high-impact pair).
• Precious stones: 6 natural cobalt blue sapphires, deep blue, rectangular/square calibrated cut, mounted in an impeccable, millimetric vertical rail setting (continuous color line with no visible metal).
• Era / Style: Circa 1975 – Modernist / Optical Art (Op Art).
• Design and Manufacture: A signature piece Custom-made to exclusive order. The front face features a brilliant three-dimensional geometric composition based on contrasting finishes: cut-out planes with a matte frosted background and mirror-polished upper edges to create subtle optical illusions with light incidence. The reverse presents a robust curved arm with a flat tilting foot (torpedo) polished to a high-end finish.
• The Hidden Monogram: The design abstractly and symmetrically incorporates the initials "FP" facing and inverted on each side of the sapphire axis, turning personalization into a cutting-edge design pattern that is perfectly wearable for any collector.
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Strong structure, sapphires in perfect condition with no chips and tilting mechanisms with excellent mechanical tension for use.
Technical authenticity note (Very important):
The piece lacks a physical hallmarks or origin assay stamp, which is common in workshop pieces made to exclusive custom orders. Nevertheless, its purity has been physically tested and confirmed as solid 18-karat gold by expert appraisers of the prestigious Balclis auction house (Barcelona) in direct on-site examination in the presence of the owner.
Historical Provenance (Single-owner Collection):
This high jewelry piece comes directly from the legacy of Francisco "Frank" Payá, a distinguished gemologist certified by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America, 1983) and a high-level international luxury sector executive. Mr. Payá had an elite career in the mid-20th century: he served as manager of Joyerías Mercurio (Panamá) in the 1960s, worked in the Pforzheim (Germany) manufacturing sector in the 1970s, and later held senior executive roles at the prestigious H. Stern on Fifth Avenue in New York (late 1970s to early 1990s) and was director of international expansion for Carrera y Carrera.
