Status: Excellent inking, good conservation state with slight traces of foxing and browning, all as shown in the photos;
Shipping: insured via Bartolini/DPD courier, declare any damages at pickup;
Provenance: From a private collection;
Artist/drawing: (James Hope Stewart): He is the Scottish naturalist painter (1789–1856), author of the original preparatory drawings. Stewart produced the plates from life or based on samples from the scientific museums of the time, working closely with Bishop for the final printed rendition.
Oliver Goldsmith (1728–1774) was one of the most celebrated and versatile Irish writers, poets and essayists of the 18th century. Although today he is remembered mainly in the literary world for the novel “The Vicar of Wakefield” and for the theatrical comedy “Ella self-humbles to win,” his work with the greatest commercial success was the encyclopedia "A History of the Earth, and Animated Nature".
Engraver: (J. Bishop): He was a skilled British engraver and etcher active in the 19th century. He worked extensively for the publishing house Blackie & Son, specializing in engraving onto metal plates the detailed naturalistic drawings, imprinting the fine texture typical of bird feathers and reptile scales that you see in the prints.
