Rare and beautiful oil on canvas depicting a scene of maternity, signed "B.MASSON" at the bottom left. The work attributed to Bénédict Masson (1819-1893), French painter of the 19th century. The composition portrays a young mother nursing her child, in a rustic interior with a bowl and a spoon in the foreground. This painting is presented in a superb antique frame of Regency style in carved and gilded wood.
Dimensions of the canvas: 100 cm x 81 cm; dimensions with frame: 123 cm x 104 cm.
Bénédict Masson studied under Paul Delaroche and Chenavart. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1840 to 1881. His paintings are found in numerous museums and French official buildings.
