AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Recycled Antique Indian Double Door – heavily carved hardwood – probably circa 1780–1820

Special antique double door set from an old bridal cabinet. Although the original cabinet dates from the late 19th century, these doors themselves appear much older and are made from heavy solid hardwood and hand-carved.

The door is fitted with traditional iron hardware, old riveted nails, six metal rosettes, and a heavy central locking mechanism. The frame is executed with deeply carved leaf, foliate and rosette motifs. The whole piece has a strong, authentic patina with cracks from drying, wear, old holes and historical repairs.

This door set was later reused in a very heavy traditional Indian piece of furniture, probably a damchiya/majus-like bridal or storage cabinet from Gujarat/Rajasthan. The furniture itself was built from recycled wood. The door set appears clearly older than parts of the later cabinet construction.

Based on the construction, the hand-carved work, the old iron fittings, and the long practical wear, it is likely to date to the first half of the 19th century, around 1800–1850. An origin around the end of the 18th century cannot be ruled out, but cannot be determined with certainty without further investigation.

Origin: India, probably Gujarat/Rajasthan
Dating: probably ca. 1800–1850
Material: heavy solid hardwood and iron
Dimensions: ca. 60 × 48 cm
Weight: ca. 10 kg

Authentic condition with age- and use-related wear, including drying cracks, small damages, old mounting holes and repairs. At the top, localized wood loss is visible.

A very decorative and characterful example of traditional Indian wood and metalworking, suitable as a wall object, architectural ornament, or collectible.
