Tristan Mottier - Born to think - XL

In this powerful black-and-white portrait, a gorilla seems suspended in a moment of deep reflection. His gaze turns upward, as if seeking an answer beyond what is visible. His hand resting under his chin evokes an almost human posture, a symbol of thought and contemplation.

This image deliberately plays with the boundary between animal instinct and consciousness. It invites the viewer to question intelligence, evolution, and the place of living beings in the world.

The intense contrast between shadow and light highlights every detail of the skin and fur, creating an atmosphere that is at once intimate, raw, and profoundly philosophical.

“Born to Think” is a work that evokes reflection, wisdom, and the mysterious spark of consciousness that runs through all forms of life.

Artist’s note:

Through my photographic work, I often seek to reveal a silent, universal emotion. Animals, in their gaze and presence, sometimes carry a depth that returns us to ourselves.

With this image, I wanted to capture a moment that seems almost human: a moment of pure reflection. As if this gorilla carried within him an ancient question, that of our origins and our place in the world.

My work is often influenced by solitude, contemplation, and the deep connection between man and nature.
