Description from the seller

Elegant decorative woven tapestry in jacquard gobelin technique, reproducing the famous composition Madonna della Seggiola (Madonna of the Chair) by Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio).

The composition depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms, accompanied by the young Saint John the Baptist. The scene is set within an oval medallion and surrounded by an elaborate ornamental frieze with floral and vegetal motifs.

The weave shows careful craftsmanship, with a wide range of greens, pinks, creams, ochres and grays, reproducing through the textile weave the volumes, expressions and details of the characters’ garments. The background and the frieze also feature ornamental classical-inspired decoration.

The original work by Raphael, created approximately between 1513 and 1514, belongs to the Italian artistic heritage. This piece is a decorative textile reproduction, made by jacquard weaving, and not an original painting by Raphael.

Due to its characteristics, it can be placed in the second half of the 20th century, within European production of decorative reproduction tapestries. The likely Belgian origin is compatible with similar examples of this type of fabric.

Due to its textile nature, special protection against moisture, creasing and pressure during transport will be provided. It is advisable to insure for transit damage. If such insurance is not taken out, the seller is not responsible for any damage that may occur during transport. It is recommended to keep the packaging until you have confirmed that the piece has arrived correctly.
