Memoirs of M. L. C. D. R. Containing what occurred with particular distinctness during the Ministry of Cardinal Richelieu and Cardinal Mazarin
In Cologne, At Pierre Marteau, 1688.
This volume contains major historical memoirs covering the ministries of the cardinals Richelieu and Mazarin, as well as numerous remarkable particulars of the reign of Louis the Great. The classical attribution under the initials M. L. C. D. R. generally designates François de La Rochefoucauld (or publications associated with his memoir writings).
Second edition, revised and corrected, published in Cologne by the famous fictitious publisher "Pierre Marteau" in 1688.
Volume bound in full contemporary brown calf, with a spine richly ornamented with gilt tooling of panels and interlace motifs, and a title piece engraved. Boards solid despite some signs of wear and rubbing from use. Text pages well preserved with the title page adorned by an engraved vignette (armillary sphere) and decorative headbands at chapter openings, bearing old handwritten inscriptions of the period struck through on the title.
