Description from the seller
Homer / [Estienne, Henri]
Homeric Poems in Two Works, the Iliad and the Odyssey, or The Iliads. Also other poems of the same... With a Latin literal interpretation... partly by Henr. Stephano...
In the year of Our Lord 1589. [1589]
This precious compact volume (in-16) gathers the two great epic poems of Homer, the Iliad and the Odyssey, accompanied by an interlinear or juxtaposed Latin translation, revised and corrected in part by the renowned humanist and printer Henri Estienne (Henricus Stephanus). The work also contains the dedicatory epistle to Baron Charles de Zerotin, as well as other Homeric poetic pieces such as the Homerici Centones and the Proverbialium Homeri versuum libellus.
Volume very worn in an old cloth binding, showing signs of use. Text pages are old and worn, with gaps in the paper filled or altered at the margins of the title, ancient period handwriting annotations, erasures on the title, and a general browning typical of late 16th-century prints. The last three leaves have been hand-copied.
Rare copy.
