AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Three-column bronze nautical hourglass. Compass rose and stars – England, ca. 1940–1950

Elegant and decorative vintage nautical-inspired hourglass, probably made in England during the second half of the 20th century.

The piece features a classical architectural construction, formed by two large circular platforms —upper and lower— united by three vertically turned columns, balustrade-profile. The columns display a succession of moldings and constrictions that give great visual richness to the whole and recall the traditional turning used in furniture and decorative objects inspired by maritime themes.

The upper part constitutes one of the most interesting elements of the piece. On its circular surface there appears a radial motif resembling a compass rose or nautical compass, composed of a circular center from which several lines radiate to the edges. At the main points, star-shaped motifs are visible, forming a composition of marked maritime and celestial character.
