Description from the seller
The Farewell
The farewell captures that suspended moment in which someone stands facing the sea while something, perhaps someone, moves away.
The figure seen from behind and the small sailboat on the horizon build an open scene, where distance becomes an essential part of the narrative.
The composition is dominated by a wide range of blues, interrupted by the intense red of the shawl and the cap. This contrast concentrates the gaze on the female figure and reinforces her silent presence against the immensity of the landscape.
The work speaks of separation, but also of memory and permanence. We don’t know if the woman is observing a final departure or simply observing what is moving away.
That ambiguity allows each viewer to complete the story from their own experience.
With a figurative language of simplified shapes and intense colors, Valdi transforms a seaside scene into an intimate and emotional moment, where saying goodbye also means preserving something of what is leaving.
