San Francisco de Asís en oración, a Baroque oil on canvas from 17th-century Italy attributed to the workshop of Guido Reni, sold with a classic gold frame, framed dimensions 71 × 60 cm.
Description from the seller
Oil on canvas representing Saint Francis of Assisi in prayer, a Bologna school work attributed to the Guido Reni workshop, executed probably during the 17th century.
The composition responds directly to the devotional models developed by Guido Reni and his circle: half-length figure, elevated gaze, hands clasped in a prayer position, halo discreetly drawn and strong contrast between the illuminated face and the dark background. Notably, the expressiveness of the face, the modeling of the flesh tones and the treatment of the hands stand out.
The work presents ancient relining, craquelure consistent with its age and visible historical restorations, preserving a notable aesthetic presence and devotional character. It is accompanied by a classical-style gilded frame.
Technique: oil on canvas
School: Bologna
Attribution: Guido Reni workshop
Period: 17th century
Canvas dimensions: 59 × 48 cm
Dimensions with frame: 71 × 60 cm
Condition: restored and relined in the past; wear, craquelure and small losses typical of aging.
A piece of marked decorative quality and interest for collectors of Italian old masters painting, Baroque art and Old Masters.
