Antique Silver Mesh Handbag (800 Hallmark) – Art Nouveau / Modernista Goldsmithing
Description of the Lot
Extraordinary antique gala-handbag (charity purse) entirely crafted in fine hand-woven silver mesh. It features a magnificently worked mouth opening with engravings and reliefs of floral motifs in Art Nouveau style, accompanied by a mouthpiece closure with a double ball and a linked chain to wear on the shoulder or in the hand.
Material: Silver (Hallmark "800" visible on the interior of the mouth opening together with the goldsmith’s mark).
Approximate weight: 170 g.
Bag dimensions: 17 cm x 16 cm.
Total length: 35 cm (measured with the extended chain).
Condition: Excellent antique condition. The mesh is complete, firm, and without visible tears. The closure mouthpiece works perfectly. Shows natural patina consistent with its age and period.
