Description from the seller
Lot of 2 bottles ( domaine de Chevalier 2010 + Marquis d'Alesme 2010)
The Domaine de Chevalier 2010 is one of the most successful and highly acclaimed vintages from this famous estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux. Blessed by the exceptional weather conditions of 2010 (cool nights and warm days), this wine displays remarkable concentration and balance, giving it immense aging potential.
While the estate produces both red and white wines, the vintage is most renowned for its Grand Vin Rouge:
The Grand Vin Rouge (Domaine de Chevalier Red 2010)
• Blend: Primarily composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot.
• Aroma Profile: A complex bouquet featuring ripe red and black fruits (blackcurrant, black cherry) blended with notes of scorched earth, tobacco leaf, licorice, and a mineral, minty touch.
• Palate: Opulent, silky, and powerful on the palate, backed by a massive yet beautifully integrated tannic structure. It has a natural alcohol level of 13.5%, making it one of the richest vintages ever produced by the property.
•
• 95/100 by Robert Parker (Wine Advocate), who noted it as one of his all-time favorite young vintages from this estate.
• 96/100 by James Suckling.
• 95/100 by Wine Enthusiast.
• Aging Potential: It is currently entering its prime drinking window. While it benefits from decanting for at least an hour if opened today, it has the structure to age beautifully in a cellar until 2035–2040+.
the 2010 Château Marquis d'Alesme (also known as Marquis d'Alesme Becker) is a highly regarded, 3rd Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) red wine from the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France.
The 2010 vintage is widely considered a major turning point for the estate. Following its acquisition by the Perrodo family in 2006, massive investments in state-of-the-art cellars and stricter standards made the 2010 vintage one of the first breakout, high-quality modern efforts from the property. Legendary critic Robert Parker famously called it a "sleeper of the vintage" and "the best effort I have ever tasted from this vineyard" at the time.
Blend & Technical Profile
• Grape Varieties: Reports on the exact final blend vary slightly by critic, but it is roughly 55% to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% to 35% Merlot, with the remainder composed of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
• Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 14.5%.
• Aging: Typically aged for 18 months in approximately 60% new French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes & Character
• Aroma: Complex and savory aromatics featuring sweet black currant (cassis), blueberries, and dark berry confit, layered with classic Margaux markers like cedar wood, cigar-box tobacco, graphite (pencil shavings), and subtle floral hints.
• Palate: Medium to full-bodied with a refined, rounded, and silky tannin profile. It shows exceptional balance, well-integrated alcohol, and a long, spicy finish.
• Current Maturity: Ready to drink. At over 15 years old, this wine has entered its ideal drinking window, where the primary fruit has beautifully integrated with mature tertiary notes of earth, chocolate, and spice.
Critic Scores
The 2010 vintage received strong praise across major wine publications:
• James Suckling: 94/100 ("Very sexy and refined")
• CellarTracker (Community): ~91.8/100
• Wine Spectator: 91/100
• Falstaff: 92/100
