Description from the seller
Superb and authentic collectible set consisting of four bells cast in solid bronze and brass, showcasing top-tier rural and artisanal craftsmanship.
This lot comprises four complementary pieces with a clear and deep sound:
• Alpine bell of the “clarine” type: Traditionally cast using the sand-casting method by the prestigious Fonderie Charles Obertino in Labergement-Sainte-Marie. It bears the authentic raised inscription of the famous Haut-Doubs foundry, surmounted by decorative festooned friezes in an arc. It is equipped with a robust rectangular upper gripping handle in forged metal.
• Right-hand hand bell: Engraved with the inscription "St Gervais", this table or reminder bell features a classic flared silhouette with a straight cylindrical handle, offering a stable grip for daily or decorative use.
• Marine bell with its rudder: A magnificent decorative signal piece fixed at the center of a bar or wheel of a stylized ship in polished gilt brass. It comes with its original turned wooden striker.
• Horseshoe luck bell: A bell suspended inside a solid horseshoe-shaped support finely textured, the perfect symbol of rustic folk art.
Condition: Very good vintage overall. The bells display a superb natural patina that enhances their authenticity, with no cracks or major structural fissures hindering the purity of their sound. The inner clappers are present and fully functional.
Dimensions of each piece:
1. Large bell on ship-wheel support (with its wooden striker): 22 x 20 x 2 cm
2. Bell on horseshoe-support: 21 x 12 x 2 cm
3. Graved alpine bell (Medium – Obertino): 9 x 9 cm
4. Small right-hand bell (Small – Saint-Gervais): 11 x 6.5 cm
